Caster primaries and physical primaries are different, and there are things a physical cannot do well. The single biggest problem with Warriors are they are melee range. They cannot switch targets nearly as well as casters, and they cannot move around the battlefield nearly as well as casters. For example, if an Ele accidentally triggers an extra patrol or popup, he can hit Fall Back and run while minions + spirits cover for him. A Warrior has more trouble. Ele damage largely ignores line of sight, while Warriors have to run up to their targets, up and around cliffs if necessary. Should spawns come from multiple directions at a time, casters can switch between sides with no problems, while Warriors have to use shadowsteps (if they go that far).
You can tell from the standard teambuilds that Warriors and casters are different. Warriors build around themselves, bringing stuff like Strength of Honour, Splinter Weapon and Mark of Pain. Caster teambuilds are generally more flexible, and the various heroes are more independent. Casters and Warriors use different techniques to manage aggro, and kill differently as well.
The bottom line is that they are different, but not necessarily better or worse. From the various time trials some people on this forum have done in the past, Warriors are faster in certain areas (Ooze Pit comes to mind), while casters are faster in others. This line is a fundamental one. It's up to you to make a decision, but after you make it your gameplay experience will be very different.

What Jeydra said.
Plus, warriors doing the most damage in the game is a very false statament I believe. Maybe it was true once, but now that they've stayed almost unchanged in the years while other professions went through a strong powercreep overhaul...add to this the time they lose when charging in/switching targets...sure they do a good deal of damage, but they're hardly the best on the dps line.
And about being the tanks...as it would really matter much in this game, seeing how the aggro works.

Warriors haven't been the best tanks in ages. Maybe pre-factions, but now assasins are the best. As to most damage output, much the same, they did have a high dmg output at one point, but now, you'll be outshined by dervs, sins, some rangers, and most casters.

Warriors have the joint highest base armour and highest inherent armor versus physical damage out of all the professions. Plus they have an attribute line that lets them equip a shield. That's essentially as close to "tanky" as you will get, as tanks are unsuitable for general PvE.
It doesn't even matter what dps IS anymore, it's the playstyle. IMO, warriors can hold the highest damage output simply because their higher armor and AoE attacks allow them to pull and ball foes the most productively. Nothing more pro than Whirlwind Attack/Earthshaker/Crude Swing/Hundred Blades etc etc going off on a balled up mob with MoP, SoH, Splinter Weapon, two RoJs and an E-Surge going off at the same time.
However, this is a playstyle that is largely unnecessary for the bulk of PvE (most suitable for high end HM stuff). Caster proffesions can just as easily deal with mobs as the process of pulling and balling using longbows and spirit walls/minions is suffice.

Don't quite agree about the "highest damage output". It's still respectable, just not the highest.
Sure, positioning is vital for any melee character to deal damage, but then again, once they are in melee range they can attack more frequently than casters and they have greater benefits from synergies with the team.
That said, I tend to agree with Jeydra: nowadays it's all down to a difference in playstyle (and personal preference) rather than an actual advantage of one approach over the other.
As Lanier said in some other thread:

Warriors are not the best "tanks" or "dps". Dervishes stole that thunder a few updates ago. With 90 base armor (windwalker insignias) and better stances, energy regeneration, spell casting and condition spreading; they have overwhelmed the warrior's tool box. Warriors needed an overhaul for 2 years and now with gw2 don't ever expect it. Even my ranger tanks better with Escape than Warriors do. The worst part IMHO is "buffing" other classes in past updates was accompanied by Warrior nerfs so they wouldn't be too "OP". With the latest HM update they can't even spike down a healer effectively anymore.

Does anyone think the Asuran Scan nerf was unjustified, then? Considering caster powercreep while melee/physical damage has been left unchanged for years (except maybe SoH).

Wait dervishes are viable now? I thought they were pretty much the weakest of all the melee (back when I played). What happened to them? Are they good DPS now compared to assassins?

Warriors don't do the most damage. Neither single target or AoE
Warriors are not the best tanks. Neither vs spellcasters, melee or mixed.
Warriors have the best mix. They do everything okey, nothing best.

Warriors don't deal nearly the same damage as Assassins and Dervish. Dagger spam completely dominates in terms of single target damage and inherently deals decent AoE damage and triggers Splinter Weapon rapidly. Dervish can completely decimate balled groups with Pious Renewal or Vow of Strength due to rather abusive AoE damage from both the scythe and the skills.
Warriors are completely useless outside a team to support them, you'll notice this when you are playing in pugs and such instead of a heroway. You have to play a Warrior yourself to see the difference playing a Warrior frontliner against Assassin, Dervish, or Ranger frontliner in a heroway. Casters are fundamentally different in nature in terms of dps and balling as Jeydra described.

They've been buffed so much to be a bit op..you know how they do overhauls, take a weak profession and make it crazily strong. Pretty much what happened to them as well (I recall my derv used to be a kamikaze while now she's almost unkillable)

Everything does so much RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing damage and tanks so RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing well nowadays that it really doesn't matter. The weakest classes are only weaker by ~20% or so, who gives a crap about class vs class.

Seriously? Oo...
I always thought that the assassins were the unkillable DPS machines.

I don't think warriors do the most damage themselves. Meaning, they can potentially do the most cdamage with support (SOH, splinter, MoP, etc).

Warrior has been a fun class to play when prophecies just came out, the good oldschool TANK and memories will last forever, now the Legendary slasher, is just showing off his flashy Obbsidian Armor and taking it easy at Kamada with his GWAMM friends.
